For effective sword-form practice, training equipment should approximate the size, feel and heft of a steel blade while helping to reduce risk during controlled practice. This approach has long been used in traditional martial arts, where wooden practice swords such as the Bokken provided a practical alternative for developing technique, footwork and basic stances. Wood can rot, crack, chip or splinter over time, so Cold Steel designed a synthetic substitute that is affordable and impervious to the elements. Cold Steel Training Products are made from the heaviest grade polypropylene available and closely duplicate a real sword in length, size, weight and feel. While they are not quite as rigid as wood, they offer the advantages of being virtually unbreakable, remarkably stiff and cut resistant.
