Cold Steel Japanese Training Swords are closely modelled after traditional Japanese sword designs. Featuring an intricately detailed imitation cord-wrap grip moulded in high-impact polypropylene, they offer a secure, comfortable hold and realistic training feel for martial arts practice. For centuries, Japanese practitioners used wooden training swords called bokken to build technique and confidence. Traditionally made from Japanese White Oak, known as Kashi, bokken were valued for replicating the size, weight and feel of a steel sword for practice. Authentic Kashi wood bokken are still used today, but can be costly and, being wood, may rot, crack, split or splinter over time. Cold Steel developed a synthetic alternative that is affordable and resistant to the elements. The Cold Steel O Tanto Bokken is made from heavy-grade polypropylene and is designed to closely duplicate the length, size, weight and feel of a traditional Katana or Wakazashi. While not quite as rigid as wood, it offers excellent durability, stiffness and cut resistance.
