This is a replica of a Highland Basket Hilt Sword, intended as a collectible piece for historical display. The basket-hilted sword is a type of sword from the early modern era, characterised by its basket-shaped hilt and distinctive period styling. The basket hilt developed from the quillons added to sword crossguards since the Late Middle Ages. It is often referred to as a broadsword. Historically, the basket-hilted sword appeared in formal and civilian contexts during the same period as the rapier, a slim sword worn with civilian dress.
