The museum quality short sword was utilised by mercenaries and other warriors in Ireland throughout the 15th Century. It was a practical close quarter piece as it was lighter and easier to handle than larger claymores and could be easily drawn in tight spaces. This style of short sword has the significant hollow ring pommel and ‘E’ accents that are only found on swords of Irish origin.
