The museum quality short sword was utilised by mercenaries and other warriors in Ireland throughout the 15th Century. It was the perfect close quarter weapon as they were lighter and easier to handle than lumbering claymores and could be easily drawn in tight spaces. This style of short sword has the significant hollow ring pommel and ‘E’ accents that are only found on swords of Irish origin.
- Light, versatile and handy to draw out of the scabbard quickly, the Irish short sword was every bit as important as its larger two-handed cousin.
