This is a replica of a Swept Hilt Rapier By John Barnett produced to museum quality. It is a well-designed sword that reflects historical accuracy and authenticity. This model comes with a leather-covered scabbard suitable for holding and protecting the sword. During the English Civil War period both mortuary swords and a variety of rapier styles were commonly encountered. Many rapiers were produced with heavier blades so the sword was better suited to the demands of period use. The term "rapier" generally refers to a relatively long-bladed sword characterised by a complex hilt constructed to provide protection for the hand. The blade of the original swords could be broad enough to cut to some degree, but the long, thin blade was primarily intended for thrusting.
