The CAS Hanwei River Witham Sword is a historically inspired medieval replica based on the original dredged from the River Witham near Lincoln during works carried out in 1788. The original is more commonly dated to circa 1250–1300 CE, and its distinctive blade inscription, +NDXOXCHMDRCHDXORVI+, is preserved as part of the replica’s character and collectable interest. Crafted in the spirit of period swordmaking, this CAS Hanwei piece features a forged 1566 high-carbon spring steel blade with a finish intentionally kept closer to medieval examples than a modern mirror polish. The leather-covered hardwood grip, traditional fittings, and peened pommel all support its historical presentation, making it well suited to collectors, display, and historically focused enthusiasts. A scabbard is included, completing the presentation and making the River Witham Sword a substantial addition to a medieval sword collection.
